A comprehensive dyslexia or learning disability diagnosis requires looking at a child through both an educational and a psychological lens.
- My Role (The Educational Component): As a licensed Reading Specialist, I administer the specialized educational and literacy processing batteries (see “Comprehensive Educational Testing Here”). I deep-dive into phonological awareness, rapid naming, reading fluency, comprehension, and academic achievement.
- The Psychologist’s Role (The Psychological Component): A licensed school or clinical psychologist typically administers the psychological portion, which includes formal cognitive or intellectual functioning (IQ testing), working memory, and behavioral or emotional screenings.
Together, these two pieces form a complete psychoeducational profile required for formal clinical diagnoses or school-based IEP eligibility. I collaborate with outside psychologists or school teams by providing the comprehensive literacy data they need to complete the full diagnostic picture.
